Dropping Individual Classes

After the end of the second week of classes, no refunds will be given when a student drops an individual course.

There is no refund of tuition if a student drops a course scheduled to start after the regular first week of classes, or a course that starts and ends within the regular start and end dates of the semester, if the drop occurs at or after midnight (12 a.m.) on the first day of the course.

Complete Withdrawal from UIC Law

For students who withdraw completely from the fall or spring semester, the Law School retains the following tuition and fees:

  • During the first two weeks of class – 0% of tuition
  • After the end of two weeks of class, but before the end of the third week – 20% of tuition
  • After the end of three weeks of class, but before the end of the fifth week – 30% of tuition
  • After the end of five weeks of class, but before the end of the seventh week – 40% of tuition
  • After the end of seven weeks of class, but before the end of the eighth week – 50% of tuition
  • After the end of eight weeks of class, but before the end of the tenth week – 60% of tuition
  • After the end of ten weeks of class – 100% of tuition

The $400 deposit for entering students is non-refundable.

The following fees are prorated: General Fee, Service Fee, Sustainability Fee, Academic Facilities & Maintenance Fund Assessment, and Library/Information Technology Assessment.

The following fees are non-refundable: Student-to-Student Fee, Health Insurance Fee (if not previously waived), U-Pass Fee, and Health Service Fee.

The following fees are charged if a student withdraws or cancels the student’s registration after the first day of school: $50 Pro-Administrative Fee and $50 CampusCare Student Health Insurance (if insurance was not previously waived).

For students who withdraw completely, the Law School retains the following tuition:

  • Before the drop deadline (first week of class) 0% of tuition
  • After the drop deadline, but before the end of the 2nd week 30% of tuition
  • After the end of two weeks of class, but before the end of the 3rd week 40% of tuition
  • After the end of 3 weeks of class, but before the end of the 4th week 50% of tuition
  • After the end of 4 weeks of class, but before the end of the 5th week 70% of tuition
  • After the end of the 5th week of class 100% of tuition

* The policy above applies to all courses (including online courses) with the following exceptions:

  • There is no refund of tuition if a student drops Accelerated Trial Advocacy after Wednesday of the first week of classes.
  • The deadline to drop Externships with a tuition refund is the second Friday after the start date of the course.

Questions concerning any of the financial policies should be directed to the Law School’s Business Office. Students who feel that individual circumstances warrant an exception from the published policy may file a written appeal with the Office of the Dean.
