All Veterans Benefits are processed and certified via the Dean of Students, Office of Veterans Affairs NOT the UIC LAW Office of Financial Aid. Additionally, please keep in mind that all military benefits could impact your financial aid eligibility.

Benefit Programs

The U.S. government offers a variety of education benefits for veterans and active service members. The most commonly used programs are outlined below.

If you plan to submit an application to receive US Department of Veterans Affairs Chapter 30, 31, 33,35,1606 or 1607 benefits, be sure to review the Application and Forms Guidance. This will point student in the right direction regarding VA benefit processing. It is important to note that students must use their UIC email account to submit an application as it is equipped to securely support multiple attachments. FORMS ARE NOT ACCEPTED VIA EMAIL.

Per the Veteran Affairs Office, the deadline for submitting a completed application for all terms is the Friday before the semester begins to ensure timely payments. Students who choose to delay submissions run the risk of late payments.

Enrollment Certifications will be processed in the order in which they were received.

  • Fall processing begins on or after June 15
  • Spring processing begins on or after November 15
  • Summer processing begins on or after April 1

Once processing begins for each term, enrollment certifications should be submitted to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs within 4-6 weeks. Student receive an automated notification from the VA when submissions are made. Processing may be delayed due to holiday observations which includes New Year’s Day, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Christmas, or any annual University closure for winter break, which occurs between the fall and spring terms. Please anticipate additional processing time during these periods. All applicants should submit/upload all required UIC Forms via the UIC Office of Veterans Affairs website. If it is noticed that there is missing information or documents, someone will contact you from the Office of Veteran Affairs.
