Through examination of the historical origins of veterans’ advocacy law and the procedural and substantive texts used by the courts and attorneys, students learn federal agency litigation practice, sharpen their analytic skills, and become confident in their ability to deal with clients, federal agencies, and the courts. Student attorneys are the backbone of clinic operations and the students who work directly with the veterans the clinic assists. Student Attorneys primarily work with veterans to upgrade their discharge or obtain VA benefits. This process allows students to gain practical skills including establishing and maintaining good client relations; fact gathering and investigation; analysis of the facts and applying the law; developing case strategies and plans; and drafting arguments.
