Human Trafficking Project Heading link
Since 2015, the Human Trafficking Project has focused on assisting survivors of prostitution, while also raising awareness in the community regarding domestic human trafficking and its relationship to prostitution. The Clinic assists survivors of prostitution obtain justice by filing petitions to vacate convictions under the Illinois Justice for Victims of Sex Trafficking Act. Also, the Clinic assists survivors in clearing their criminal records by seeking expungement, sealing, and executive clemency on their behalf. The Clinic has worked closely with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office to compile research on the effect of law enforcement’s efforts, both locally and nationally, to reduce the demand for prostitution and end human trafficking.
Mortgage Foreclosure Cases Heading link
The Pro Bono Litigation Clinic provides direct legal representation in foreclosure cases for clients who are residents of Cook County. In addition, clients may receive legal advice for a diverse range of foreclosure-related issues. Law students and designated supervising attorney(s) provide the collaborative with quality legal representation and offer advice to homeowners who are facing foreclosure and in need of legal assistance.
Transgender Name & Gender Marker Change Services Heading link
The Pro Bono Litigation Clinic launched the Name and Gender Marker Change Project in 2016. Students assist transgender individuals who are faced with the task of changing their names and identification documents. Students assist with the preparation of necessary court documents and appear in court on behalf of individuals at hearings.
