Kratovil Conference on Real Estate Law & Practice Heading link
The Kratovil Conference on Real Estate Law & Practice was established in 1994 to honor the memory of Robert Kratovil, the “dean of Chicago’s real estate attorneys,” who served as Chicago Title’s chief underwriter before ending his career as a member of the Law School’s faculty. The Kratovil Conference has been important to the Center’s mission of research and scholarship in the real estate field. The Kratovil brings together leading scholars, practitioners, and industry professionals to consider cutting-edge issues important to commercial real estate attorneys, their clients, and our society.

Center Programs on Emerging Issues in Commercial Real Estate Law
The Center holds periodic programs on emerging issues in commercial real estate law to educate the practicing bar and real estate professionals. These programs and workshops enable attorneys to earn continuing legal education credit and are often held as breakfast meetings.

Real Estate Law Student Group Programs
The Real Estate Law Student Group at UIC Law is an umbrella organization with two sub-groups: the Real Estate Law Student Group of Lambda Alpha International and the Real Estate Law Student Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. This student-led group organizes events where leading real estate lawyers and professionals come to UIC Law to discuss topics and careers in commercial real estate law and business. Student leaders work closely with the Center to make this work relevant and important.

Site Visits
The Center organizes periodic excursions in Chicago to enable students to tour notable commercial real estate projects and learn about the project from the attorneys and other professionals. The Center has taken students to the Merchandise Mart, the Sullivan Center, the Joffrey Ballet’s new State Street location, The Legacy luxury condominium by Mesa Development, an office building at 111 West Jackson and 30 North LaSalle, and the Chicago Transit Authority’s downtown headquarters.

Career Programs
Each semester the Center offers a career program to tell students about the career opportunities open to those interested in commercial real estate law and sustainability. Programs feature alumni, members of the adjunct faculty, and advisory board members. The programs supplement the one-on-one advising that degree candidates get from the Center and the Law School’s Career Services Office.
