Czech and Slovak koncipients (unlicensed apprentice lawyers) and lawyers are invited to participate in a week-long seminar that explores American law, professional ethics and alternative dispute resolutions. This seminar is presented in cooperation with the Czech and Slovak Bar Associations. It has been presented yearly since 2001. Participants attend morning, afternoon and evening sessions.  Lectures and discussion of different aspects of American law and the legal profession are presented each morning. The afternoon sessions are reserved for mock exercises that involve client interviewing and counseling, negotiating an international contract, and dispute resolution. The evenings are spent in recapping the day’s information or presentation of an American movie that focuses on a legal issue. All sessions are conducted in English.

Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the 2021 program will be presented online; however, live classes are expected to resume in 2022.

Reunions Heading link

Each year alumni and instructors gather for a reunion in Prague or Bratislava. This event usually is scheduled for the Saturday following the conclusion of the current year seminar so that the instructors may attend. Less formal gatherings have been organized by alumni in each country during the year.

This seminar is underwritten by generous donations from the Robert W. Beart and John A. Drost families.
