The University of Illinois Chicago School of Law (UIC Law)—Chicago’s only public law school—is a diverse, dynamic, and scholarly community that educates students to become ethical, innovative, and multidisciplinary problem-solvers and counselors who pursue justice in a rapidly changing world. Established in 2019, the law school stands as a beacon of legal education, consistently producing change-makers and justice-seekers who navigate the complexities of the legal landscape.

The UIC Law Social Justice Magazine, "Paving the Path"  was created in 2023 to capture the academic excellence our students pursue through rigorous programming and to promote the cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research conducted by our faculty that continue to nurture critical thinking and intellectual curiosity.

Since the 2019 acquisition of the School of Law as UIC’s 16th college, the Law School has been working diligently to preserve the legacy of social justice and rigorous legal education that has embodied our school’s history. With the support of the University of Illinois System, the Law School has access to additional funding, research tools, and interdisciplinary work across multiple disciplines, including the extensive advocacy and outreach between the Law School and UIC College of Medicine. Venture through new enhancements coming to the law school, become inspired by our student stories as they journey toward their dream career in the legal field, explore the intersection of health and the law through the lens of interdisciplinary education and see how our faculty research and scholarship keep our social justice legacy alive by influencing change within the community and the world.

Don’t call it a comeback! Our history of providing students with the resources and opportunities needed to make an impact has been in place for years. However, since the acquisition of the Law School by The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) in 2019, our commitment to social justice and to upholding a tradition of diversity, innovation and endless possibility for the students and communities we serve has amplified. With a strong focus on social justice, we prepare our students to make immediate change, not only in the community, but to the justice system as a whole. We challenge our future law practitioners to recognize active responsibility; to be groundbreaking move-makers and change agents for a better future. From our awe-inspiring students and faculty to the alumni keeping the law school’s legacy alive, this magazine was designed to capture our stories, our journeys, and our triumphs as we pave our path to justice.
