Nicola “Nicky” Boothe, dean of the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law, was sworn-in as a licensed attorney for the state of Illinois by Illinois Supreme Court Justice Joy Cunningham on Tuesday, December 5.
The oath of attorney ceremony, co-hosted at the Chicago Bar Association (CBA), was attended by esteemed law school alum, including Chief Counsel to the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism Mark C. Palmer, President of Region IX for the Hispanic National Bar Association Daniel R. Hernandez, and Founder of Ankin Law Howard Ankin, as well as a host of UIC leadership, including Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Karen Colley, and other faculty, staff, and community members.
The ceremony concluded with an evening of celebration, camaraderie, and the opportunity to network inside of CBA’s Corboy Hall over beverages and Hor ‘Deavours. The milestone celebration also welcomed the opportunity for Dean Boothe and newly appointed Executive Director of Advancement Chrissy Brown to build lasting connections among esteemed alumni and supporters of the law school.
About Dean Nicky Boothe
Nicky Boothe became Dean of the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law in June 2022. A leader in legal education and experienced litigator, Dean Boothe was previously a tenured member of the Florida A&M University College of Law faculty, where she taught since 2006. Before joining UIC Law, she was a Visiting Professor of Law at the Boston University School of Law. During her time with FAMU, she served as the Interim Dean of the College of Law, as well as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Before entering legal academia, Dean Boothe was a defense litigator for almost a decade.
A nationally recognized leader in the field of ethics and professionalism in law, Dean Boothe has served as a Fellow for the National Institute for Teaching Ethics and Professionalism and as a member of the Florida Supreme Court Special Committee on Professionalism. A member of the American Bar Association Civil Rights Litigation Committee and the Order of Barristers, she is a certified speaker by the Florida Department of Insurance and holds certifications for interviewing and counseling in the legal field.
