Professor Samuel Jones Appointed to Evanston Citizen Police Review Commission
Samuel Jones, a professor of law and associate dean, has been appointed to Evanston's Citizen Police Review Commission after having been recommended by Mayor Daniel Biss and unanimously approved by Evanston’s City Council.
A leading voice regarding police accountability and reform, Jones explained, “I am profoundly convinced that proper police accountability and attention to citizen concerns will facilitate increased trust and confidence between police officers and the communities they serve and ultimately save lives and resources. There is no question that most men and women serving in the Evanston Police Department are very good. Equally true is that the vast majority of Evanstonians are law-abiding citizens with unending respect for human dignity and law enforcement. I sincerely hope to add to the vitality and diversity of thought on the commission so that we optimize our capacity to serve all citizens and reduce any gaps in trust between our law enforcement professionals and the public.”
More about Professor Jones' appointment is discussed in the city of Evanston City Council Meeting Agenda.
