The Health Law Society, a student-led organization at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law (UIC Law), donated fundraised money to the Equal Hope Foundation, an organization dedicated to “eliminating health inequities.” The HLS hosted a fundraiser where they donated part of the funds in support of the organization’s ability to provide free mammograms and cervical cancer screenings for those who are uninsured.
The HLS is led by Kassidy Chase, president, and board members Khushbu Patel, Caitlyn Asama, Emilio Valcarel, Sadie Emsber, and Alex Albanese. The HLS hopes to lead a group of students who are committed to understanding the intersectionality of public policy and the law and dismantling legal structures and processes that may perpetuate inequities.
The HLS has assumed the task of educating the public and students within the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) system about health and the law through acquired learning and curriculum, in-person alumni and industry professional panel discussions, and a monthly newsletter designed to establish connections and share internship or job opportunities for students to make an impact.
Assisting with the goal of maintaining connections and sharing health law opportunities with law students, Kassidy was also named Ambassador for the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys (IAHA) this year. As ambassador, Kassidy is responsible for:
- Promoting Illinois Association for Healthcare Attorneys’ programs, membership events, Quarterly Lectures, and the Illinois Health Law Symposium
- Promoting IAHA, Health Law opportunities, and membership to law school students
- Assisting in hosting IAHA events at our law school and engage in social media promotional efforts
- Providing and fostering network opportunities between UIC Law and the Illinois Healthcare Attorney’s Association
Kassidy will represent the IAHA as the sole ambassador for UIC Law.
