Associate Dean for Law & Health Sciences and Professor of Law Amy T. Campbell has been named Co-Investigator on a newly awarded National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant, “Examining Contextual and Protective Factors on Racial/Ethnic Health Disparities Among Preschool Children with Developmental Delays.”
Dean Campbell joins a multi-disciplinary team of investigators, including grant PI Dr. Reshma Shah, an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Director of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at UIC, and will provide a variety of law and policy advising services.
The grant team will address disparities in therapeutic access among Black and Latino pre-school children with development delays, specifically by studying the impact of contextual factors, including educational, healthcare, and neighborhood indicators, on multilevel outcomes. Dean Campbell will focus on the role of law/policy, as part of the context and with potential effect on these outcomes.
The multi-disciplinary team of investigators includes representation from Pediatrics, Medical Education, Educational Psychology, Disability and Human Development, and Public Health.
“Through participation on this grant, the different disciplines recognize the role of law as a tool in advancing the health, wellbeing and equitable outcome of youth with disabilities” Dean Campbell said.
Dean Campbell hopes to expand this work to include law student research assistants.
