The Career Services Office (CSO) Mentor Program is designed to help UIC Law students start building their professional network from day one. Through this program, students are thoughtfully matched with practicing attorneys based on shared interests, career goals, and practice areas. These mentorship relationships offer students valuable opportunities to gain real-world insight into different legal paths, ask questions in a supportive setting, and receive guidance on everything from course selection to job search strategies.

First-Generation Student Utilizes Mentorship to Obtain 711 License and Hands-On Experience in Legal Field

(My mentor) and I are still in contact today. She has been instrumental in helping me navigate my law school career, and I am incredibly grateful for that.

Through the mentor program, Sierra Osowski was matched with alumna Alyssa Hurt (J.D. ‘24). Knowing that Sierra was searching for a summer position, Alyssa recommended her to the Chicago Legal Clinic where she was leaving her position. This led Sierra to an invaluable experience as a Criminal Records Intern. The Chicago Legal Clinic also sponsored her to obtain her 711 license, which allowed her to argue in court and resulted in her winning all the arguments she presented.

UIC Law offers a range of opportunities for students to connect with our dedicated alumni and legal professionals in the field. From career-focused panels to dynamic networking events, students gain firsthand insight into the legal profession while building lasting relationships that support their growth.

“(An alum’s) mentorship went beyond mere guidance, as she introduced me to her network and invited me to partake in legal research. Without her mentorship and support, I might not be on the path I am currently pursuing.”
