About
Mariah Garcia is a Staff Attorney and Adjunct Professor for the Pro Bono Litigation Clinic. In her position she supervises law students on a variety of legal matters including civil rights cases, prisoners' rights cases, clemency petitions, and criminal records relief cases. She also performs outreach related to the Clinic's LGBT+ Name Change Project.
Prior to joining the Pro Bono Litigation Clinic, Mariah was a Staff Attorney at Westside Justice Center (WJC) in Chicago, where she provided direct representation to Chicagoans seeking expungement and sealing of their criminal matters, as well as representation to detained and non-detained immigrants in bond and removal proceedings. Before WJC, Mariah was a Fellow and Associate at a Plaintiff's side litigation firm, where she worked on civil rights, prisoners' rights, and wrongful conviction cases on a Federal and State level.
Mariah holds a BA in History and Literature from Harvard College and a JD from the University of Chicago School of Law. In law school, Mariah won the Mandel Award for outstanding contributions to the clinical program. Mariah is also a member of the National Lawyers Guild.
