Alumna to be Sworn in as President of Cook County Bar Association

This June, LeDeidre Turner (JD ’13) will be sworn in as president of the Cook County Bar Association (CCBA), marking a full circle moment in a career rooted in public service and community impact. Among more than 100 presidents in the organization’s history, Turner will be just the 20th woman to hold the role; something she approaches with both pride and responsibility.
Turner began her career at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office before going on to roles with the City of Chicago and the Illinois Human Rights Commission. She now serves as assistant general counsel at ComEd, continuing her commitment to service in a new capacity.
Her connection to the CCBA began in law school, when she engaged with the organization through events and its Minority Law Student Job Fair, an experience that helped her secure her first role out of law school. Since then, she has held numerous leadership positions within the organization, steadily rising through its ranks.
As she steps into the presidency, Turner plans to build on the organization’s legacy while focusing on mentorship, professional development, and expanding access to the legal field for future generations. Her theme for the year, “Defending Justice, Defining Tomorrow,” reflects both a commitment to the rule of law and a focus on preparing the next generation of legal professionals.
“I try to do everything with the people who are coming behind me in mind,” she said. “Showing them that this is where you can be.”
For current and prospective law students, Turner encourages them to fully embrace the experience and stay focused on their goals.
“Law school is something that you have never experienced,” she said. “Use that time to be selfish with yourself… there will be long days and late nights, but the goal is to graduate, pass the bar, and enter the legal field.”
