UIC Law Alumna Obtains National Recognition for Work in the Personal Injury Sector

UIC Law alumna Marvet Sweis Drnovsek (JD ’11) has built a reputation as a formidable advocate, representing individuals and families in catastrophic injury and wrongful death matters.
Sweis Drnovsek’s work has earned widespread recognition across the legal community. She has been selected to Illinois Super Lawyers, a distinction reserved for the top 5 percent of attorneys in the state. Chicago Lawyer Magazine also recognized her as one of the Top 40 Attorneys Under 40. Sweis Drnovsek went on to receive the Chicago Bar Association’s Vanguard Award, marking a sustained trajectory of distinction throughout her career. Nationally, she has been recognized among the Top “40 Professionals Under 40” in America by the AA Foundation and named to America’s Best Advocates’ Top 10 Personal Injury Law Firms Dedicated to Justice.
Early in her career, she was guided by respected mentors, Steven M. Levin and the Honorable William J. Haddad, whose influence she credits with shaping her approach to advocacy and leadership. After building her legal foundation at a leading Chicago trial firm, Sweis Drnovsek established her own practice that allowed her to blend entrepreneurial drive with a commitment to advocacy.
As Principal Attorney of MSD Injury Lawyers, she leads a practice defined by precision, trust, and consistently top-tier results. Her practice has grown through trusted referral relationships, reflecting the confidence she has earned among fellow attorneys and clients alike. Known for her strategic clarity and steady presence, Sweis Drnovsek approaches each matter with a disciplined focus on outcomes and a commitment to transparency.
Her leadership roots trace back to UIC Law, where she served as President of the Middle Eastern Law Students Association (MELSA). “It was the relationships I built with classmates, professors, and the administration that had the biggest impact,” Sweis Drnovsek said. “Those connections carried with me into my career.” A decade later, that early leadership came full circle when she served as President of the Arab American Bar Association of Illinois.
In 2022, the Governor appointed Sweis Drnovsek to the Illinois Commission on Discrimination and Hate Crimes (CDHC). She is now serving a second term, advancing efforts focused on education, prevention, and coordinated response to hate and bias against targeted minorities.
“Representation matters,” she said. “We deserve a seat at the table, but more than that, we are needed. It takes all of us to move the needle toward light, and the world needs more light.”
Through her work in law, her leadership in the community, and her commitment to mentorship, Sweis Drnovsek continues to create space for others while advancing the mission that first drew her to the law: advocating for those who need it most. She shares that commitment with her husband, Demijan Drnovsek, a fellow attorney and UIC Law alumnus. Together, they advocate fiercely for the communities they serve.
