TADR Program Receives Sponsorship and Hands-On Litigation Training From Wilson Elser Law Firm

The Trial Advocacy and Dispute Resolution (TADR) program at UIC Law is honored to have practitioners and judges who invest their time and commitment into expanding the advocacy skills for our students. Wilson Elser, a defense litigation firm in Chicago, co-hosted and sponsored the program’s Trial By Fire and Negotiation Classic competition this past weekend at the law school, seeing it as a great opportunity to provide students with exposure to civil litigation.
“The Firm sees it as an opportunity to enable them to make informed choices on the type of law they would like to practice once licensed,” said Bennett Heller, a Partner at the firm.
Attorneys from Wilson Elser helped preside over the trials for the competition and provided feedback to the team members on their advocacy skills. The Trial By Fire and Negotiation Classic competition is especially important to the TADR program because it helps finalize the teams who will represent UIC Law in external competitions in the upcoming season.
Each year, following a competitive try-out process, the TADR program selects 50 students who will make up the fall competitive cohort. Following a summer of workshops, they host the Trial By Fire competition for the students in the program to compete for the title of UIC Law’s Trial by Fire champion.
According to Heller, Wilson Elser sees the alliance with UIC Law as a way to make deeper connections within the Chicago legal community while also providing job opportunities for UIC Law students and alumni.
