Claire Raba Appointed As Policy and Social Engagement Fellow at UIC

Professor Claire Johnson Raba will serve as a grant-funded Policy and Social Engagement Fellow sponsored by the UIC Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy in the 2025-2026 academic year.

Professor Raba’s project, in collaboration with community partner Chicago Appleseed Center for Fair Courts, will study the impacts of civil asset forfeiture on Black and Latinx families and communities in Cook County, examine the barriers that impede property owners from asserting challenges to civil asset forfeiture, and the economic impacts of seizure and forfeiture of money, property, and vehicles by law enforcement following traffic stops and searches.
