Rising Attorneys Inclusive Summer Experience

MISSION: To provide access and information to students interested in impacting their communities by using a law degree to promote social justice.

Rising Attorneys Inclusive Summer Experience

Join UIC Law for an exciting two-day immersive experience where you will explore how to prepare for, apply to, and finance law school; what to expect during law school; and how you can use your J.D. to improve yourself, your community, and society. Rising attorneys will get to:

  • Participate in a mock trial
  • Attend mock classes taught by UIC Law faculty
  • Network with current and former students

Upon completion of the R.A.I.S.E program, qualified participants will receive a certificate of completion and gift card. Students must attend all sessions to receive their certificate and gift card.

Rising Attorneys Inclusive Summer Experience

Eligibility:

  • Continuing UIC undergrad students in any college or major
    (Unfortunately, students graduating spring or summer 2023 are not eligible.)
  • Priority will be given to higher class level students
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Preference will be given to first generation college students

  • 2-day R.A.I.S.E Event: Thursday, June 1 from 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. | Friday, June 2 from 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at UIC Law (300 South State Street Chicago, IL 60604)

Mock Class: Statutory Interpretation
A statue, also known as a law or a bill, outlines specific rules and commitments the people must follow; however, they can also be vague and left open to interpretation. Join Professor Green as she gives students a first-hand look into how lawyers read and analyze legislation and cases. This mock law class is similar to the Lawyering Skills or Expert Learning curriculum students take here at UIC Law.

Mock Class: Property Law
Delve into the world of Property Law with Professor Kordesh. In this mock law class, students will see how a lawyer might read some cases about property law, extract rules from the cases, and apply the rules to other scenarios using an issue of property law that most students will be familiar with from everyday life.

Mock Trial
We’ll see you in court! In this session, you’ll be divided into groups, given assignments, and will undergo a series of simulation trainings with real life judges as you prepare to defend your case in a mock trial. Guest judges include Justice Jesse Reyes, Justice David Navarro, and the Honorable Maryam Ahmad.

There are a variety of ways to get to the law school by car, public transportation, or by an alternative method. Useful apps for navigating public transit in the Chicago area include Transit Stop, Ventra, and Embark Metra. UIC Law has also negotiated discounted parking at two area garages, though you may also find good parking deals on websites such as Spot Hero. Take a look at the options below to determine which method works best for you.
