Burton D. Wechsler First Amendment Moot Court Competition

This nationally renowned competition is hosted annually by the American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C. It has provided law students the opportunity to argue cutting-edge cases in front of renowned judges in the nation’s capital for more than 26 years. Past final argument panel judges have included Hon. Pamela A. Harris of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, Hon. Reggie Walton of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and the Hon. Timothy B. Dyk of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Past competition problems have addressed a wide variety of First Amendment issues, including speech by public officials, municipal regulation of businesses, the rights of public school students, and legislator-led prayer.
